Knee ligament damage cruelled his debut 2007 season with the Rabbitohs. The Kiwi international managed only five games including a courageous comeback for the qualifying final against Manly. A fearful sight when in full flight and an inspirational leader. Look for a big season from the man they call ‘Kid’ in South Sydney’s Centenary year.

What do you remember about your debut game:

It was against the Raiders in 1997 with Ricky Stuart, Laurie Daley and Brad Clyde in the Canberra team. It was a bit of a shock, I remember walking out and I was thinking more about getting their autographs than about the game. After the game I wanted to get a photo with them all but I didn’t have a camera.

What are your goals in football:

After what happened last year I want to play a full year with Souths.

My mum convinced me to switch back to rugby league from rugby union when I was 16.

What was your first job:

A development officer for touch football in Christchurch.

I like anything Reggae, Hip Hop or Dance.

Favourite TV show:

So you think you can dance

Favourite food:

A boil-up, it’s a Maori dish with pork bones, watercress and doughboys in it.

What is your favourite place to go on holiday:

I would really like to go to the Maldives.

If you were not a footballer what would you be doing:

I’m sure it would be something to do with sport, I’ve always loved doing it.

My kids, my family.

First Grade Games:

196

Earliest football memory:

When I was six we moved house in Hornby Christchurch and I went from playing rugby to league. At training the other kids were making fun of my rugby training gear. That was until we played a game of bulrush and I ran through the whole team.

Favourite football moment:

Winning the Tri Nations with the Kiwis in 2005.

Game that changed my career:

During 2005 when I was with the Storm I was sin-binned by referee Steven Clark and it was then that the penny dropped; my ill discipline was hurting my team. After that I vowed to change things around.
