'Camp Rabbitoh' Established in Coffs Harbour

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are to make the top-class sporting facilities at Novotel Pacific Bay Resort in Coffs Harbour their training camp for the next three years, after a partnership was announced at ‘Camp Rabbitoh’ today.

The Rabbitohs will take over the tenancy at the Novotel Pacific Bay Resort in a deal which includes the team playing a pre-season match in Coffs Harbour each year against another NRL side, two training camps per year, plus Souths Cares programs and activities to benefit the local community and Rugby League in the region.

The partnership includes:

  • Novotel Pacific Bay Resort to be known as ‘Camp Rabbitoh’;
  • The opportunity to develop a promotional campaign to promote Coffs Harbour to Australia using Rabbitohs players and coaching staff;
  • Match Day Signage to promote Coffs Harbour events;
  • Pre-season Match - One trial match per year in Coffs Harbour against a fellow NRL team;
  • Business Seminar delivered by SSFC personnel during each stay at Camp Rabbitoh;
  • Primary School training and education program for schools in Coffs Harbour Local Government Area;
  • The possibility of an annual scholarship program rewarding outstanding Rugby League talent in Coffs Harbour to be developed in partnership with Coffs Harbour City Council and others;
  • Opportunity to support the Souths Cares program that provides unemployed Indigenous Australians with the best possible opportunities to enter the workforce;
  • A Sportsman’s Dinner where Rabbitohs squad and coaching staff attend dinner, provide speeches and interviews and SSFC assistance with prizes;
  • A Golf Day at Bonville International Golf Resort where players and coaching staff will participate and can be used for speeches, interviews and SSFC assistance with prizes.

South Sydney Football Club Executive Chairman Peter Holmes à Court said: “This partnership will not only allow us to train at one of the elite training camps in the country, it will also enable us to connect with the community and work with the people on the Coffs Coast.

“We’ve made ANZ Stadium our home for games for the next ten years, we’re returning to Redfern as our main training base, we’re looking at options to broaden the Club’s appeal to the west coast, and now we can add ‘Camp Rabbitoh’ in Coffs Harbour as a another piece of the puzzle that is going to make this Club successful again.

“We’re pleased that we can work with the community members of Coffs Harbour and the surrounding areas to help promote Rugby League and help disadvantaged people of the area through our Souths Cares programs.”

Coffs Harbour Mayor, Councillor Keith Rhoades said: “We’re very proud that the Rabbitohs have chosen Coffs Harbour as their future base for training camps.

“Having close links with an elite team of the calibre and reputation of the Rabbitohs reinforces the city’s position as the first-choice regional sporting venue in NSW.

“Not only will our relationship with the Rabbitohs give us enormous regional, national and international coverage, but it has the potential to boost local jobs – through the increased use of existing sports facilities as well as indirectly via a growth in visitors to the area.

“I hope the team will also provide an inspiration for young, local sporting talent to aim for the top,” he said.

Stephen Sawtell, Council’s General Manager, said one of the main attractions of the South Sydney Rabbitohs Football Club was their pro-active involvement in community programs that promote sport and help disadvantaged youngsters and their families.

“The Rabbitohs team – players and management – have shown themselves committed to working very closely with the communities with which they are involved,” said Mr Sawtell.

“There are huge potential benefits for our local community through our association with the club. The ‘Souths Cares’ program, for example, focuses on Indigenous communities, promoting the benefits of education and healthy lifestyles and supporting pre-employment courses, mentoring and workplace opportunities. In addition, we will be working with Souths on extending their scholarship program - to help disadvantaged youth achieve their goals on the sporting field and academically – into the local Coffs Harbour area.”

Souths Cares Gets Boost from Shadowboxer

Rabbitohs corporate partner Shadowboxer has thrown its support behind the Souths Cares program for 2008, by making an initial donation of over $2000 worth of products to the organisation this week.

Shadowboxer is hoping that the donation of the equipment will help kids get serious about health and fitness.

“Souths Cares is an initiative we’re proud to support,” Shadowboxer Founder and CEO Paul Todd said.

“It falls in line with what we believe in, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind.

“We’re really happy to have the opportunity to give back to the underprivileged and we’re hoping to encourage more kids to get out there, give it a go and make something of themselves.”

Souths Cares assists disadvantaged young people and their families, and focuses on Indigenous communities throughout Australia.

They do this by drawing on the rich heritage of the Rabbitohs and engaging current players in the delivery of programs that promote the benefits of education and healthy lifestyles.

Souths Cares was established by Peter Holmes à Court and Russell Crowe in 2006, with David Peachey joining the team as a Souths Cares Ambassador in 2007.

“We are really grateful to Todd and his team for supporting us in such a practical way,” South Cares Manager Simon Dirs said today.

“Shadowboxer will provide the kids in our programs with a fun and unique way of staying fit and healthy.

The portable nature of Shadowboxer also allows us to use it in regional and remote programs as well.

“We cant thank them enough.”

Rabbitohs host Corporate Sponsors

Rabbitohs host Corporate Sponsors

Director of Football Operations Shane Richardson gave Rabbitohs corporate partners a unique inside into the Club on Saturday.

As South Sydney Head Coach Jason Taylor ran his side through an early morning skills session, Richardson provided an insiders look to more than 200 corporate partners on hand at Erskineville Oval.

The players trained for 90 minutes and then mingled with Rabbitohs corporate partners and their families.

Taylor chatted to those gathered about his plans for the season ahead before Richardson conducted a special tour of the Erskineville Oval training facilities.

Rabbitohs Corporate Partnerships Manager Jeremy Scott said the day was another benefit of being a corporate partner of the club.

“The rain suprisingly stayed away and everyone had a really enjoyable morning. It allowed the players, the coaching staff and our sponsors to mingle and discuss the year ahead,” he said.

“Days like this give our corporate partners a great insight into how the club works and the culture we are building here. It was an informal day that allowed all of our corporate partners to enjoy a BBQ, bring their children to meet the players, and watch the team train. It was a good friendly day in a relaxing environment and everyone is looking forward to the year ahead.”

SSFC investigates home game options in WA

SSFC investigates home game options in WA

The South Sydney Football Club has undertaken some preliminary investigations into taking up to two home games from 2009 to Western Australia.

SSFC has been working with the NRL on checking the feasibility of taking games to Western Australia. South Sydney has had meetings with the Western Australian government and WA Events, the Western Australian Rugby League and various stadiums and sponsors to see what options are available to the Club.

“We have been approached to play a limited number of games each year in WA, but the concept is not finalised as yet,” Rabbitohs Director of Football Operations Shane Richardson said.

“We’re looking at the details and we’re working with the NRL to see if we can take games to WA in coming seasons, and to make it a worthwhile exercise for everyone involved. There is a lot more investigating to do on this, however there is a large unmet demand for Rugby League in WA and we’re seeing if we can help meet that need.

“We can guarantee that our Members won’t be short-changed in this. We’re looking at one or two games per season and we will work on providing a 12-game package for our Members here in Sydney. We always consider the impact on our Members and corporate partners when making decisions like these.

“Again, nothing has been finalised and we will know more by the end of next week.”

Mr Richardson and SSFC Executive Chairman Peter Holmes à Court will be in Perth this week to consider all options that are being presented to the Club and will be seeking the commercial commitments required to make this concept feasible.

Rabbitohs Make ANZ Stadium Home For 10 Years

Rabbitohs Make ANZ Stadium Home For 10 Years

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have renewed their deal with one of the nation’s premier sporting facilities, locking in ANZ Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park as its home ground for the next ten years.

The agreement to play NRL home games and home finals at ANZ Stadium for the next decade was struck between the Club and ANZ Stadium this week, with the new deal commencing this season. The agreement runs until the end of 2017, superseding the inaugural three-year home ground arrangement at ANZ Stadium that started in 2006.

The features of the 10-year deal include:

  • A minimum of 10 NRL home games per season and all home finals;
  • Construction of a dedicated Rabbitohs Locker Room within ANZ Stadium, providing change rooms and player amenities;
  • Enhanced bar and lounge facilities for Rabbitohs Members and corporate guests;
  • Continuing financial, marketing and match day promotional support from ANZ Stadium.

SSFC has already achieved a great deal during its tenure at ANZ Stadium, with home crowds growing by 48 per cent in 2007, securing the highest home crowd average of 15,702 for the Club in the modern era. The Rabbitohs also hold the largest NRL regular season crowd record at ANZ Stadium, with 34,315 Members and fans attending the round four clash with the Bulldogs last season.

Rabbitohs Director of Football Operations Shane Richardson says the custom player locker rooms will add to the Stadium’s already first class facilities and most importantly increase the home feel for the Rabbitohs team.

“The people at ANZ Stadium showed faith in us when others didn’t and we’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with ANZ Stadium to reward that loyalty,” Mr Richardson said.

“This Stadium deal will give us the financial clout to become the best team in the competition, and that’s what it’s all about. For the first time, our Club has the best Stadium deal in Rugby League if not in all of sport. I’m not just talking financially, but also in the benefits it provides to our Members, our players, our coaches and our corporate partners.

“The stats show that our Membership is no longer dominated by the 2000 to 2036 postcode areas, which has been our traditional audience. We have made our home at ANZ Stadium and that has proven a success with our ticketed Membership numbers trebling since we made the shift to Sydney Olympic Park.

“We can finally say that we have a permanent home in Redfern for our training and administration, and a playing home at ANZ Stadium.

“The support shown from Ken (Edwards) and his team is first class. They are partners in the Rabbitohs premiership aspirations. ANZ Stadium is our home.”

SSFC Director of Marketing John Richardson says the Members of the Club will be some of the big winners from this deal.

“This deal delivers the Rabbitohs a long-term partner in ANZ Stadium that is committed to providing the Club with the best services for its Members. The Members will receive discounts on parking, food and beverage (from 2009), an improved Members-only bar and post-match area and a commitment from the Stadium to grow the Membership over the next ten years,” Mr Richardson said.

“We understand that our ticketed Members like to have the best seats in the house, alongside their family and friends each and every Rabbitohs home game, and by making ANZ Stadium the home of the Rabbitohs for the next decade our Members can make their seat their own for the many years ahead.

“We always aim to offer our Members the best experience possible at South Sydney home games and with the help of ANZ Stadium we will improve each year.”

South Sydney Director of Finance Joe Kelly says this long-term agreement is a fundamental piece of the Club’s financial future.

“The agreement the Club has reached with ANZ Stadium is paramount to our business plans for the next decade,” Mr Kelly said.

“Maximising revenue received from match days is fundamental to a successful business model for any football club. ANZ Stadium have demonstrated their support and long term commitment to our Club through reaching an agreement on this new deal.

“Financially, this is a wonderful deal for the Club.”

South Sydney Member Company Chairman and SSFC Director Nicholas Pappas said: “Our tenure at ANZ Stadium has opened up a whole new world of supporters to our great Club.

“The strides that we have taken in the last 18 months mean that no longer are our core supporters drawn just from our traditional heartland - rather, the Club now draws on committed support from across Sydney, from other states and territories and from abroad.

“A Club like ours deserves the best, and the best stadium in Australia is ANZ Stadium. It's the best not only in terms of the facilities it offers, but in terms of the commercial benefits for our Club.”

South Sydney Rabbitohs Executive Chairman Peter Holmes à Court said the new agreement reached with ANZ Stadium will form the foundation of the Club’s plans for growth over the next decade.

“The new Stadium deal provides enhanced benefits for our most important stakeholders including our Members, sponsors & corporate customers, and our players,” Mr Holmes à Court said.

“I owe a huge thanks to my team and the team at ANZ Stadium who worked so hard to put this deal together.”

ANZ Stadium Managing Director & CEO Ken Edwards said the Stadium was excited to be a partner of the Rabbitohs for the long-term.

“This is an extremely significant agreement, not just for the Rabbitohs and ANZ Stadium, but for the game of rugby league,” said Edwards.

“The NRL is a world-class brand of footy where champion athletes produce fantastic entertainment and drama. It warrants big crowds at world-class venues. That’s the essence of this agreement between the Rabbitohs and ANZ Stadium.

“We want to help the Rabbitohs and the NRL in Sydney to as big as they can be.”

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have three big games to open the 2008 season at ANZ Stadium, with the 25th Charity Shield against the Dragons on Saturday 1 March, followed by the opening ceremony of the Centenary season against the Roosters on Friday 14 March and the Good Friday game against the Bulldogs on Friday 21 March.

Tickets for the 25th Charity Shield are now on sale to the public at all Ticketek outlets, over the phone on 132 849 or online at www.ticketek.com.au.

Peter Holmes à Court and Ken Edwards will field questions from Rabbitohs Members via a live webcast interview this Monday 11 February at 11am. Follow the links on www.rabbitohs.com.au and www.anzstadium.com.au to watch and participate in the webcast.

NSW Government to sponsor Souths

14 Jan 2008

NSW Government to sponsor Souths

NSW Deputy Premier the Hon. John Watkins MP was joined by South Sydney Rabbitohs Executive Chairman Peter Holmes à Court today to announce a unique sponsorship initiative seeking to promote Sydney as an investment and tourism destination.

SydneyAustralia.com is to appear on the front of the Rabbitohs jersey when they take on the Leeds Rhinos in the Australia Day Challenge in Jacksonville, Florida on January 26, as well as signage and promotional opportunities across the United States.

The SydneyAustralia.com sponsorship will complement the commitment made by the NSW government to the activities being conducted in the G’Day USA program of events, the largest Australian trade fair in the US spanning Los Angeles, New York and Jacksonville.

Mr Holmes à Court says the Rabbitohs are excited by the opportunity to work with the NSW government in promoting Sydney.

“We’re delighted to help profile Sydney as we take the Rabbitohs into the largest sporting and business market in the world,” Mr Holmes à Court said.

“There is a lot of excitement in Florida surrounding the game and we’re very happy to be able to help spread the message of the benefits of doing business in, and visiting, Sydney to the residents of the United States.

“I’m thankful for the business support we’ve found already in Florida and look forward to using this interest to promote Sydney.

“The Australia Day Challenge is one of the feature events on the G’Day USA calendar and the team is looking forward to playing its part when representing Sydney in Jacksonville for the two-week tour.”

Sydney Ambassador to the United States of America, the Hon. Kristina Keneally MP will be representing the NSW government at the Australia Day Challenge and at G’Day USA events during Australia Week.

Deputy Premier Watkins said: “Ms Keneally will take on the role of promoting Sydney and NSW in the US − she is a natural choice for this role as she was born in the US and has many contacts there.

“She joins a group of high profile and influential individuals who are using their networks to ensure that the strengths of NSW are well understood by business and government decision makers around the world.”

The South Sydney Rabbitohs play the Leeds Rhinos on Saturday 26 January at Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida (UNF). The team will undertake a ten-day training camp leading up to the game at UNF, plus a number of other promotional events.

The Rabbitohs have many sponsors who do business in the US, and the Club has many Australian companies supporting the Club on their tour to Florida. Existing sponsors such as Virgin Blue, BlackBerry, Armani and Casella Wines are companies that conduct business in both Australia and North America.
